The Owner grew up in a family-owned lumber yard / construction company and wanted a home that expressed the use of simple “off the shelf” construction materials and the art of construction framing.

As part of the UNESCO historic site, the expansion of the Ibla park inside an area of San Domenico Church is very important for the preservation. All new arrangements consist of a strict spatial architecture and complete road system, this allows the use of space and perception of new and different points of view.
Contemporary architecture, in this context not entirely self references, but coming from a place and elements of surrounding buildings. The design concept of this botanical garden related to urban perception of traditional materials, limestone, mixed with a contemporary steel and glass, is adhering to the idea of balance and sensitivity. Large courts conceived as a space for meeting and outdoor sculpture exhibition. The walls in the soft limestone of the rods vertical plane is defined apart from each other through the window.

Influenced by the demands of modern lifestyle where multiple activities should be able to run simultaneously, require a home that can understand those needs. Bates Masi Architects build the Sam’s Creek Family Residence on a land area of 1 acre with building area of 6,500 sq. ft. at Bridgehampton, NY. To show the activity, arrangements of the house are made for transparency and divide the site as well as establish view corridors from front to back.
This modern home consists of a series of open boxes, each tailored to the architectural program that focuses on the views from the street and has independent audio, video, and climate control to operate autonomously. On the exterior, interstitial spaces between the arranged boxes are gardens and patios. The overlap of the boxes on the interior creates thresholds and highlight.
